Three major needs have been identified to assist Iris in her effort to return to school and continue rehabilitation treatments in Gainesville:
HANDICAP VAN
This vehicle needs to be equipped with and appropriate handicap lift and internal security mechanisms for a wheelchair. It must be capable of seating Iris and her family of four children and two adults.
ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR
This is a customized wheelchair that allows Iris to move on her own, including at home, at school, and in and out of a van. The wheelchair will also allow Iris to reposition herself during her daylong treatment.
HOME RENOVATION
Extensive modifications of the Robert's home in Lake City are required to provide a handicap accessible facility for Iris' long term care and maintenance. Modifications include converting an existing room to a bedroom/bathroom suite, along with special equipment that allows for easy movement and daily care. In addition, a central heating/cooling system will be installed, as well as additional storage.
TOTAL COST
The total cost of the whole project is slated to be estimated at $80,000- $100,000. The Florida Professional Firefighters has committed significant human and financial resources to the Iris Project and have taken an active leadership role in managing the effort.
HOW CAN I HELP???
You can help by making a financial contribution to The Florida Firefighters Charities with a note designating the money for The Iris Project.
